Sergeant, Co K, 18th Massachusetts Infantry
The fifth of nine children born to David (Jr.)and Mary (Baxter) Chubbuck. He married Abby P. Bosworth in Quincy, MA on Nov. 21, 1859, but had no children.
Chubbuck was a 27 year-old Painter from Quincy, MA, when he enlisted in that town on August 15, 1861 and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on August 24, 1861 as a Corporal with Co. K. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on an unknown date. He was engaged with the Regiment in 1862 at the siege of Yorktown, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Shepherdstown, and Fredericksburg, where he was wounded on Dec. 13, 1862. Chubbuck was further engaged with the regiment in 1863 at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He reenlisted for three years service on Feb. 15, 1864 at Beverly Ford, VA. He was buried at Cold Harbor National Cemetery, Rt. 156 N, Mechanicsville, VA, Plot 782.
His younger brother Frank, who also served with the 18th Mass. died of disease on Oct. 2, 1863 after being released as a Prisoner of War. Older brother, David T. Chubbuck, Enlisted in Company H, Massachusetts 4th Infantry Regiment on 22 Apr 1861.Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant. Mustered out on 22 Jul 1861 at Long Island, Boston Harbor, MA. Enlisted in Company K (just 6 days later), Massachusetts 19th Infantry Regiment on 28 Aug 1861. Mustered out on 30 Dec 1864, but died of gangrene a year and a half later.
