She married Wendell G. Cleaver on Dec. 26, 1941, in Peoria, Ill.

Mrs. Cleaver was a 1941 graduate of Bradley University and taught briefly at Whittier Elementary School.

She was a 20 year member of the Peoria Board of Education, serving three terms as president, and was the first woman president of the Illinois Association of School Boards. For several years she represented the 18th Congressional District for the National Association of School Boards.

Additionally, Mrs. Cleaver served on the Board of Directors of the Children's Home Association of Illinois and was board president from 1986 through 1988. In l981-82, she was president of the board of directors of Goodwill Industries. For several years, she served as chairperson of the Pettengill-Morron House for the Peoria Historical Society and served by appointment of then-Mayor Richard Carver on the Downtown Redevelopment Committee during the planning stages of the Peoria Civic Center.

Her husband, Wendell, and granddaughter, Margaret Jean Cleaver, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son, Scott M. (Judith) Cleaver; daughter, Sally L. (Pat Harrington) Cleaver; grandson, Patrick S. (Angie) Cleaver and their daughters Alexys, Aleesha and Jaycee; several step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.
