She as the daughter of Drury Harrell and Emily Ann (Hurst) Rosanbalm.

She was married William A. Parris, 24 July 1885 in Grainger County, Tennessee.

In 1895 they moved their young family to Cass County, Missouri. The journey was made by train with three small children, all of their household goods, as well as their live stock. They bought a farm in the Hickory Grove community west of Pleasant Hill.

They attended the Hickory Grove Baptist Church, which was the center of their life. The children attended the Hickory Grove, one room, neighborhood school.

During the "Great Depression" of the 1930's they lost their farm. They moved to a small home in the town of Pleasant Hill. Most of their children migrated to southern California in search of work.

William passed away in the early spring of 1939. In the spring of 1940 Martha went to California to visit some of her children.

She knew hard times and made the best of it. Her youngest daughter always said "Mom knew how to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"........and did.

She was the mother of eight children;
1. Leona b-28 Sept.1887
2. Darthula b-24 Apr 1889
3. William H. b-11 June 1891
4. James Clarence b-25 Dec 1892
