CHILLICOTHE - Charles A. 'Chick' Taylor, 81, 4904 E. Rome West Road, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 19, 2008) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Springhill Cemetery, rural Beecher City, with the Rev. Don Miller officiating. There will be no visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and sent to his home.

Charles A. "Chick" Taylor, 81, 4904 E. Rome West Road, Chillicothe, Ill., died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Loudon Township, Fayette County, Ill., the son of William Harrison and Rosa Pearl Hedge Taylor. He married Verna Deloris Brown on April 26, 1947, in Brownstown, Ill. She survives of Chillicothe, Ill.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Diane Westart of Chillicothe, Ill.; four grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Welsh of Germantown Hills, Ill., Ryan (Michelle Johnston) Westart of Galesburg, Ill., Tony Taylor of East Peoria, Ill., and Michael Taylor of Yates City, Ill.; four great-grandsons, Jake and Caleb Welsh, Dalton and Caiden Taylor; two brothers, Ray (Wanda) Taylor of Cottage Hills, Ill., and Paul Taylor of Taylorville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles William "Chuck" Taylor; two sisters, Nellie and Bonnie; and five brothers, Thurm, Jack, Glen, Rollie and Dyke.
He was raised and educated in Brownstown, Ill., and farmed in the area.
He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 15, 1945, until March 30, 1947, during World War II. He received the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Germany.
He worked for Standard Oil for 20 years, managed the Warrensburg Gas Company for 10 years and was 1993.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1516 of Taylorville, Ill., and the Old Capitol VFW Post 3862 of Vandalia, Ill.
