LAST RITES HELDFOR GUN VICTIM
Harold Rhodes Dies Almost Instantly After Hunting Accident
Harold Rhodes was fatally shot Friday when a discharge from his gun severed a jugular vein. He was riding in the back seat of a car driven by E. A. Edwards when the tragedy occurred. His gun had been placed between himself and Edwards in the front seat. Shortly after Rhodes exchanged places with N. H. Panger but the gun was left in front. When Edwards attempted to shift gears, the gun was struck in some unknown manner and the discharge occurring pierced the back of the seat and went into Rhodes' shoulder. The party was startled and did not know for an instant what had happened until Rhodes said he was shot. His Companions took him from the car and laid him down. As he was placed on the ground he removed his hands from the wound saying "Can't you do anything for me?" A moment later he was dead. Harold Albert Rhodes was born May 30, 1901 at Toledo, Iowa. After two years the family moved to northern Minnesota settling on a homestead. Here young Harold spent his boyhood acquiring his great love for nature and its' primeval beauty. Here in God's great out-of-doors he grew to manhood. Here he lived with the deer as they still roamed in that rate and loved to gather blue berries for the family table. Here he attended high school. About that time the family moved to Ladysmith, Wisconsin where Harold helped his father on their farm. Here in Wisconsin he met Mabel Hail who became his wife on June 7, 1923. In April of 1925, the Rhodes family came to the state of Washington settling at Leavenworth. While here Mr. Rhodes became a member of the Hamilton Odd Fellows lodge at Leavenworth. Since 1929 the family has resided in their little home just west of Cashmere. He was employed by the lumber company as a trusted worker. His employers appreciated his faithfulness and dependability. He was a faithful husband and a loving father to his children and an industrious provider for his family. While he was a member of no church he had given his promise to join the Lutheran church, the church of his wife and children. His end came suddenly and accidently last Friday afternoon having attained the age of 33 years 6 months and 3 days. Three children preceded him into eternity. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his three children, his parents, his two sisters, besides ether relatives and many friends. May they all find comfort in the Lord and in His promises.
