Achish Pool was the son of Joshua and Mary (Burrell) Poole. He married Susan Hersey 14 November 1799. They had two sons before moving from Massachusetts to Niagara County, New York where their third son was born. In Dickersonville Achish and Susan ran an inn which became known as "The Temperance Hotel" for they would serve no liquor. When the town of Lewiston and surrounding area was attacked and burned during the War of 1812, the family had to flee east leaving their inn to be burned by the British.
