John W. Howarth, 83, of Springfield, formerly of Thayer, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1921, in Thayer, the son of George and Hallie Wyman Howarth. He married Mary Louise Renfro in 1951; she died in 1975. He then married Marie Williams Boblitt in 1976.

Mr. Howarth worked as a farmer and for the state from 1946-62, as a laborer from 1962 until he retired in 1985 and as a manager at Watkins since 1984. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1942-45 in England, France and Germany with the Third Army.

Survivors: wife, Marie; five daughters, Debra Ann Harden of New Berlin, Brenda Mae (husband, Jake) Oney of Crestview, Fla., Mary Lou (husband, Ronald) Siebert of Montgomery, Texas, Clara Jean (husband, Bert) Bertolino of Claremore, Okla., and Ruby Marie (husband, Russell) Anders of Springfield; four sons, Robert (wife, Judy) Krupp of Springfield, Gary Lee (wife, Joyce) Boblitt of Palmyra, Ralph (wife, Evalin) Boblitt of Springfield and Russell (wife, Susan) Boblitt of Rochester; sister, June Tully Murphy of Springfield; brother, George Christian (wife, Elena) Howarth of Virden; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn, the Rev. Peter Wherly officiating. Graveside services: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
