May Fitzsimmons was the widow of Thomas McCormick from County Cork in Ireland. She was from Gloversville, New York originally. She was a flaming redhead and widowed early in life and left to bring up 4 small children, the eldest 9 year old Emery. Her husband Thomas was struck and killed by a train while walking across the train bridge that connects Ste. Anne de Bellevue and Ile-Perrot, he was thrown into The Lake Of Two Mountains far below and never found. (this is where the Ottawa River meets the St. Lawrence River and the currents are extremely strong)

She was the mother of Emery, Beatrice, Charles and Edward McCormick.
