Eugene A. "Fat" Kirby, 64, of Loami was pronounced dead Friday after a boating accident on the Illinois River Thursday. Mr. Kirby was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Lake Fork, the son of Arthur and Opal Duncan Kirby. He married Alice Costello in 1943. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, James, in 1980.
A resident of Loami since 1957, Mr. Kirby was a farmer. He was a member and past board member of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; two daughters, Mrs. John (Monica) Knepler of Chatham and Mrs. Fred (Judy) Compardo of Loami; 11 grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Opal Kirby of Buffalo; four brothers, William Dean Kirby of Tolono, Donald E. Kirby of Buffalo, John L. Kirby of Riverton and Merle Lee Kirby of Greenview; two aunts.
Services at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Berlin.
