The services were conducted by Rev. Edwards, pastor of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. Swim, pastor of the Nazarene church, and Dr. J. S. Geiser, pastor of the Grandview church of the Brethren. The music rendered by the church choir and the male chorus was such as to soften the hearts and moisten all eyes. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, contributed by loving friends, his church, the family, and M. W. A. Lodge which spoke of peace, purity and immortality. At the close of the service an unusual long procession followed the funeral car to our silent city where the remains of the departed were tenderly laid to rest, his six sons acting as pallbearers.
All the children of the family with the exception of Mrs. A. W. Killam, who resides in California, were present at the funeral. They are: Clarence L.; Amos P.; Riley C., and Walter of this place and community; Chauncy D., and Wallace of Wyocena, Wis., and a step son, Wesley P. Porter, who resides here; Mrs. Anna Bates of Dixon, Mont., and Mrs. Carrie Mair, of Dalton, Wis.
There is no language at our command by which we can fittingly portray the sincerity of this man's Christian character. He was a model of mental industry in his efforts to entertain and instruct his people. He was strictly honest in the service he rendered. In short, he was not only a Christian, but he was an honorable gentleman, in the toughest sense the term implies. To man, woman or child, saint or sinner, he always extended a cordial greeting that lent a ray of light to brighten their pathway on the journey of life. He commanded the respect of all sects and classes of people. It was so perfectly natural for him to do right. We did not fully appreciate his true worth until after the thread of life was severed. Just as we caught a glimpse of the snow white sail that bore him away to the distant shore, we awakened to the realization that good and righteous man has been taken from our midst.
Heartfelt sympathy is extended to his companion and children.
