Mr. Butler passed away Saturday, April 26. He was born March 25, 1925 in San Augustine to J.W. and Sally Butler. He served as a combat infantryman in World War II and specialized as Rifleman 745. He was a retired chicken grower and loved hunting, fishing and gardening, but most of all, sitting on the front porch and telling tales to his grandsons Wes and Drew.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Derrell, Tom, Brice and Barney and his sister Lois Bailles.
He was survived by his wife, Wanda Jean Butler; son, Wendell Butler; daughter, Susan Hurst and husband Dennis; grandsons, Wes Hurst and Drew Hurst; brothers, Cliron Butler and Ronnie Butler; sisters, Nina Bell Layton and Christine Pleasant; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Disease Research Foundation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Laird Funderal Home.
