Delphia Irons Dennis, 85, died Sunday evening, October 26, 2008, at The Arbor in Ridgeland, after a long struggle with Parkinson Disease. Visitation will begin at 1 pm Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison; with services at 3 pm. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Delphia was born October 7, 1923, in Philadelphia, Mississippi. After graduating from high school, she married Walter Dennis and they celebrated over 48 years of marriage together. In 1953, the Dennis family moved to Jackson. They were charter members of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and in later years joined Pocahontas Baptist Church and Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Delphia was always active in church organizations and taught primary Sunday school classes for many years. She was a member of the Asgard Jackson Federation of Women's Club.
Mrs. Dennis was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dennis; parents Calvin and Sadie Irons; brothers Norman and Dick Irons; sisters Frances Cumberland and Waudine Irons; and great-great grandchild, John Walter Dennis.
She is survived by her son, Mike Dennis of Madison and his wife, Jane; grandchildren, Michael Dennis, his wife Amy, and their children David, Anna, and Julia of Oxford; granddaughter, Lori Elliot, her husband, Reed and their children, Quinn and Swayze of Oxford; grandson, Jeff Dennis, his wife, Jessica and their children, Walter, Ivy, and Brown of Oxford; and brother, Orman Irons of Carthage.
