This needs more research, but based on date of his birth only, I believe Benjamin L. Bisby's mother could be Abigail (Owen) Montague Bisby (born 12 Oct 1781 Windham CT. (per "History and Genealogy of the Montague Family in America", by Steve Hissom 1881), died 12 Oct 1840). She was first wife to Ezra F. Bisby (and previously, first and only wife to Zenas Montague (b 12 Dec 1778, father of David Owen Montague, who founded LaMotte, IA in the early 1840's, but would have been about 44 years old when she had Benjamin L. Bisby in 1826. Abigail Bisby died in 1840. So after that time, (assumable only), Erza F Bisby and Charlotte Hill (as his second wife) would have gotten married. Zenas Montague died in 1810 at Syrucuse NY at the age of 32, freeing up Abigail (Owen)Montague to re-marry. I don't have any marriage records or other evidence to back this up, but just due to the dates, it looks to me that this might be correct. Charlotte Hill is the first of four daughters of Polly Lee Hill (b. 1777 in VT, died 3 Aug 1850 in LaMotte, Jackson County, IA.) The US Federal Census, p. 283, Prairie Springs, Jackson County, IA.shows Polly Lee Hill in the household of David O. Montague (he is age 45), Lucy Lee (Hill) Montague is age 41 and Polly Lee Hill is age 73. Polly Lee Hill dies a short time after the Census is taken on 3 Aug 1850. "The History and Genealogy of the Montague Family states that "In 1812 his (i.e. Zenas Montague's) wife, Abigail, with his son Peter, had moved to Middlebury. in Genesee County, New York. There she married for a second time, to Erza Bisby (Bisbee, Bisbey), though at what date is uncertain (probably about 1812)...". So, at least to me, it follows that if Benjamin L Bisby was born in 1826, and Abigail (Owen) Montague Bisby (the first wife) died in 1840, that probably Benjamin L Bisby's mother is Abigail, not Charlotte Hill Bisby, the second wife. Check it out. Abigail (Owen) Montague Bisby's parents were Frederick Owen and Margaret Hibbard per "Descendants of John Owen of Windsor, CT. (1622-1699): a genealogy".

Polly Lee Hill's four daughters in order of birth are:
(1st) Charlotte Hill (b 25 Dec 1802 VT., d 6 Apr 1873, m. Erza F. Bisby after about 1812, buried Burr Cemetery, Burr Oak,Winneshiek County, IA.; (2nd) Lucy Lee Hill (b 23 Jul 1809, Middlebury, Addison County, VT., d. 10 Jun 1894 in (?) Davenport, IA., buried Oakland Cemetery, Clinton County, IA., married David Owen Montague (b. 1805 in Orwell, Addison County, VT., died 4 Sep 1883 in Davenport, IA.buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport, lot 5, blk 4, next to his son Jude Montague) (David Owen Montague is son of Zenas Montague and Abigail (Owen) Montague) married 3 Jun 1829 in Mina, Chautauqua County, NY., (3rd) Malinda Hill (b. 25 Aug 1815 in Genesee County, NY, d. 24 Mar 1892, LaMotte, Jackson County, IA., married George Washington Belknap 1 Jan 1835. Both are buried in LaMotte cemetery, Jackson County, IA. per their obituaries.; (4th) Eunice Hill (b 22 Jul 1818 (or 1825) , d. 31 Dec 1876, buried next to Polly Lee Hill in East Hill Cemetery, LaMotte, Jackson County, IA. Married Asa S. Wingate (maybe sometime between 1864 -70). We are told, but not verified, that Asa S. Wingate is buried next to his first wife, so Eunice (Hill) Wingate is buried next to her mother, Polly Lee Hill. (In Burr Cemetary, Burr Oak, Winneshiek County, IA. are a number of Wingates buried. Relationship unknown, but Charlotte (Hill) Bisby and Ezra F. Bisby are also buried in this same cemetery..)
