SOUTH BEND - John R. Hall, 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:04
PM Tuesday, October 21, 2008, in Hospice House, South Bend, IN. He
was born on June 18, 1932, in Winchester, TN, to Auburn and Montie
(Busbee) Hall. Mr. Hall had resided in South Bend since 1943, coming
from Winchester, TN. On July 10, 1965, at Grace Baptist Church in
South Bend, IN, he married Mary Jo Whitacre, who survives. Along with his loving wife
of 43 years, Mary Jo Hall, he is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Dixie) Hall of
Mishawaka; sister-in-law, Donna (Ken) Boseker of Waterloo, IN; brother-in-laws,
William (Mildred) Whitacre of Union Mills and Timothy Whitacre of South Bend; half
brother, Elton Hall of Winchester, TN; numerous nieces and nephews. His sister, Joyce
McCune, preceded him in death. Mr. Hall served in the Korean War and was the first
local veteran injured. Mr. Hall received a Purple Heart on August 8, 1950. He was a
member of VFW #1147, Paralyzed Vets of America, and Berean Bible Church. He
attended Grace Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Friday,
October 24, 2008, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South
Bend. Rev. Richard Jordan of Shorewood Bible Church will officiate. Military graveside
services and burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. The fam ily
will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 PM today in the Palmer Funeral Home.
