Ivan Ancell Who practiced periodontics in Hayward, California for 32 years, died November 7, 2004 of complications from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He was 63. Dr. Ancell, a native of Iowa, attended Drake University, and graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 1966. He served as a dental surgeon in the United States Public Health Servica and, in 1969, entered the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine post-doctoral program in periodontics. In 1972 Dr. Ancell established his periodontics practice in Hayward. In addition to his full-time practice, he was a key member of the University of California, San Francisco volunteer faculty and was active in the community and local dental society. Among honors received, Dr. Ancell was named Instructor of the Year three times by his UCSF students, and was inducted into The Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists. He is survived by Mary Ancell, his wife of 38 years; sister, Joan Floden of Fremont, Iowa; brothers, Larry Ancell of Leighton, Iowa, Leo Ancell of Norwalk, Iowa, and Gerald Ancell and Francis Ancell, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and by his colleagues, loyal staff and patients, students, and dear friends. Private services were held November 13, 2004. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Hayward, 2490 Grove Way, Castro Valley. Memorial contributions may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind (San Rafael); to the Peninsula Humane Society (San Mateo County) or another animal protection agency for the purposes of investigating and prosecuting cases of animal abuse; or to an organization of the donor's choosing.
