Ruby Houchins Meadows, 87, formerly of Wayside, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at The Seasons in Lewisburg, following a short illness. Born Oct. 21, 1920, at Wayside, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Clinton and Laura Allen Houchins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Meadows; four brothers, Charlie Houchins, Arnold Houchins, Harold Houchins and Leonard Houchins; and three sisters, Emma Houchins, Mabel Beal and Hazel Baker. Mrs. Meadows was a retired correctional officer, retiring from the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Alderson, and a homemaker. She was a 1936 graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, and attended Concord College at Athens. Mrs. Meadows was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside, where the Rev. Hughllyn Wilson officiated. Burial was in the Wayside Cemetery. Family and friends served as pallbearers. Visitation was Monday evening at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. In her last days of illness, she was lovingly and well cared for by the staff and caregivers at The Seasons, for which the family would like to express their appreciation.
