He married Lucy Ann Wood in 1858 when Lucy was 24. They lived in Sec. 30 of Buckingham Twp. They had 3 children, Josephine, Preston and Martha. Cornelius died of consumption (TB)in 1865 at age 34.
He was said to "have been a young man of correct habits and principles, social in his nature, he was popular and universally esteemed".
His Brother, Conklin, was 11 years older. After Cornelius's death, Conklin took over and became a father figure in the family. In about 1882 they bought 80 acres in Humboldt County and moved there.
