Phoebe W. Brown

Mrs. Phoebe Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Watts, was born June 12, 1862 at Oblong, Ill. She resided there with her parents until 1882 and then moved to Missouri.

February 14, 1884 she was united in marriage to Stephen L. Brown at Atchenson county, Missouri.

In 1886 she and her husband moved to Greeley county, Nebraska, where they resided for 14 years, later moving to Boone county, where they made their home until 1908. They then moved to Deuel county, what is now Garden county, and filed on a homestead where they continued to reside until about 1920 when they moved to Lewellen where she resided until her death.

To this union seven children were born, James R., Lander, Wyo., Harry, who died at the age of 2, Pearl West, who passed away at the age of 22, Ray B., Vallejo, Calif., Frank, Ogallala, Louis, Oshkosh and Millard, Morrill.

She united with the Baptist church in early life and remained true to her faith all through life.

She lived an active and helpful life and passed away after an illness of five weeks, January 4, 1946, at the age of 83 years, 6 months, 22 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing 5 children, 29 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Rev. C. C. Chappell in charge of funeral services held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon. Burial was in Ash Hollow cemetery.
