Chico Enterprise, Friday, July 5, 1946: "Hiram V. Attebury, [sic] Dayton Area Farmer, Is Taken by Death. Hiram V. Atteberry, 79, well known farmer of the Dayton district, died Thursday afternoon in an Oroville hospital after several years of failing health. Atteberry was born in Illinois, and came to Chico with his parents when he was 14 years old. He attended the Chico schools and then started farming in the Durham-Dayton district, where he had lived continuously since. He was married to Miss Molly Stewart of Durham, who preceded him in death several years ago. Surviving him are a son and daughter, William S. Atteberry and Mrs. Irene Bolens [sic] of Chico; and a half-brother Asa Tyler of Merlan, Ore. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Nugent-Huddleston Funeral Service."

Chico Enterprise, Saturday, July 6, 1946: "Atteberry Funeral Services Arranged. Friends are invited to attend the services for the late Hiram V. Atteberry, prominent farmer in the Dayton district, which will be held in the Nugent-Huddleston Funeral Chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. William M. MacInnes of the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian church will officiate, and interment will follow in the family plot in the Dayton cemetery."

Chico Enterprise, Monday, July 8, 1946: "Funeral Service Is Held Here for Hiram Atteberry of Dayton. Many friends were in attendance this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Nugent-Huddleston Funeral Chapel for the service for the late Hiram V. Atteberry of Dayton, who died Thursday afternoon after a long illness. The Rev. William M. MacInnes of the Bidwell Memorial church conducted the rites in the flower-banked chapel, with Roy Jefferies singing `Rock of Ages' and `Near To The Heart of God' during the service, with Mrs. D.D. Erwin as accompanist on the organ. Interment was in the family plot in the Dayton cemetery, with graveside ceremonies being conducted by W.H. McAnarlin and Joe Mead of the Durham Lodge I.O.O.F., of which the deceased had long been a member. Friends serving as pallbearers were, J.B. Tyler, J.G. Coon, W.W. Wahl, LeRoy Ford, Fred Franklin and W.B. Wageman."

The family plot area has, as of May 1996, been surrounded by a 16 x 16 foot concrete coping. The area inside 4-inch high coping has also been filled in with red pea-gravel.
