Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, December 4, 1965: "William Atteberry. William Stewart Atteberry, a resident of this area for 72 years, died early this morning at the Veterans Hospital in Martinez after a short illness. He was born in McArthur (Shasta County) On Oct. 15, 1892. When he was an infant, his family moved to the Dayton area where he attended the Dayton School. He served with the U.S. Army in France during World War I. On Jan. 18, 1926, he married Jennie Jones. They lived in the Dayton and Durham area and then moved to Chico. Atteberry was a member of Barracks No. 440, Veterans of World War I, and Chico Post No. 1555, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his widow, two sons, Hiram with the U.S. Air Force in England and Harley of Chico; a sister, Mrs. Ione Boelens of Durham, and one grandchild. A daughter, Marjorie, preceded him in death. Funeral services are pending at the Timmons-Van Hook Funeral Chapel."
Chico Enterprise-Record, Thursday, December 9, 1965: "William S. Atteberry. Funeral services for William S. Atteberry will be conducted in the Timmons-Van Hook Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Rev. Robert Schwermann, chaplain of Chico Post No. 1555, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will officiate. Chico Post No. 1555 will have charge of military rites at the grave. Interment will be in the Dayton Cemetery."
The family plot area has, as of May 1996, been surrounded by a 16 x 16 foot concrete coping. The area inside 4-inch high coping has also been filled in with red pea-gravel.
