Chico Enterprise, Wednesday, November 12, 1947: "Mrs. Margaret Coon, Former Chican, Dies in Sacramento Home. Mrs. Margaret Coon died at her home in Sacramento Tuesday morning. She was born in Coles County, Illinois in 1855 and came to California in 1860, settling in the Dayton District. She lived in and around Chico until she moved to Sacramento two years ago. She was the daughter of the late Maline [sic; should be Mahlon] Gray. In 1871 as Margaret Gray she was married to Andrew Coon who preceeded her in death on December 18, 1918. There were eight children born to that union. Two survive their mother. They are Mrs. Rose Compton of Durham and Mrs. Ethel Knudsen of Roseville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Brusie Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Dayton Cemetery."

Chico Enterprise, Thursday, November 13, 1947: "Funeral Services for Margaret Coon Today. Dr. Verne C. Brown of the Trinity Methodist Church officiated at the 10:30 services this morning at the Brusie Funeral Home for Mrs. Margaret Coon who died at her home in Sacramento on Monday night. Interment followed in the family plot of the Dayton Cemetery with S.G. Lewis, Jess Cartwright, Wiley Wahl, Richard Westlake, Shelley Gray and John Reinemer acting as pallbearers."
