Alturas Plaindealer and Modoc County Times, Thursday, Jul 28, 1938, pg 1:

"Mrs. Nellie Snider Prominent Resident of New Pine Creek Dies --- New Pine Creek mourns the loss of one of its older citizens in the death of Mrs. Nellie Snider who passed away at her home last Sunday evening at 10:30 with Bright's disease and kindred ailments. the vital margin between life and death had been narrowing for the last two weeks when it was first learned that a premature death was inevitable.

"Mrs. Nellie May Snider was 66 years old having been born in Butte County, Dayton, Calif., on June 6, 1872. She spent her girl-hood in that vicinity. On October 10, 1892, she was married to John F. Snider, a farmer and contractor and in 1898 they came to Goose Lake Valley, locating on the west side. Later they sold and purchased a ranch seven miles south of New Pine Creek on the highway. For several years including the mining boom days she used the ranch house as a boarding and rooming house where freighters and teamsters put up over-night. Several years later they leased their ranch and acquired the place now operated by her son Robert J. Snider. Before his death five years ago, John F. Snider purchased the town property where Mrs. Snider has been living since.

"Mrs. Snider is survived by her only son Robert Jr., daughter-in-law, Mary, three grandchildren, Lloyd, John and Robert Lee. Also Mrs. Viola Vincent, a niece, who was raised in the family and her daughter Jean of Lakeview. She is also survived by her mother Mrs. Maggie Coon, one brother Charles Coon, both of Chico and three sisters Rosa Compton of Durham, Calif., Ethel Knudsen of Roseville, Calif, and Terah Gambetta of San Francisco. In addition there are many nieces and nephews and also a host of friends in Goose Lake Valley. An impressive funeral service was held at 2:30 last Tuesday afternoon."
