Ed Pinkert, Jr., 61, died August 27, 1994 at University Medical Center in Albuquerque.

Mr. Pinkert was born in Lampasas, Texas, on July 16, 1933 to Mary and Edd Pinkert. He and his family moved to Tohoka in 1943 when he was 10 years old. They moved to Portales in 1947 where he lived until 1953 when he moved to Oregon to work. While living there he met Beverly Ann Exum who he married on Jun3 2, 1956 in Weston, Oregon.

They moved to Portales and except for very short periods of time, this had been his home. He worked at Swift Packing Company for 17 years. When the packing plant closed he began working as a plumber and later established his own plumbing business. He was forced to retire due to his health in 1992. While his children were young, he coached in the city basketball and baseball leagues.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tina Pinkert of Portales; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelli and Randy Mitchell of Portales; six grandchildren; B. J. Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Jamey Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Cody Pinkert and Jenea Pinkert all of Portales; one brother, Guy Pinkert of Logan and one sister, Mary Jo Conoly of Van Horn, Texas.

Mr. Pinkert is preceded in death by his father in July 1988; his brother in May 1994 and one sister, Gwen Burns, also in May 1994.

Services will be held Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Horton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donny Conoly, Paul Conoly, Bill Conoly, Ronny Bradburn, Jorge Ochoa and Steve Villanueva. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Walker, Jerry Sparks, Wendell Kelly, Leo Robinson, Harry Johnson, Raymond Cochran, Bill Foster and all other friends.
