He and his wife, Charlotte, were the parents of three daughters, Marceline Mae (1927-1978), Eloise, and Sharon (born 1939). They were the in-laws of Rev. James Warren Jones (1931-1978). They last visited their daughter, Marceline, known as Marci Jones, who was a nurse and ran the children's center in Jonestown, Guyana in October 1978 before the tragedy. He was a native of Richmond, Indiana. He lived with his family in the home that he was raised in on the West Side of Richmond in a two story white farmhouse. He was elected as a Republican to the Richmond City Council in the 1940s.
