Anchorage resident JO ANN EYSTEINSSON, 43, died of heart failure Aug. 23, 2001, in her sleep at her mother's home in Anchorage. Visitation was at St. Innocent Orthodox Christian Cathedral with services following. The Rev. Benjamin Peterson officiated. Burial was at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the burial, a repast was held at the church. Pallbearers included her brothers, Lee Ashouwak, Ted Ashouwak, Lloyd Ashouwak and John Ashouwak; son-in-law, Patrick Clark; and common-law husband, Vern Anderson.
Ms. Eysteinsson was born June 18, 1958, in Old Harbor, where she was later a member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church. For a time, she had lived in Blaine, Wash., but returned, making Alaska her home. Ms. Eysteinsson took care of her two grandchildren, Kaylien and Devarion Ashouwak. She loved to play bingo at Player's Choice. Her family said: ''Jo Ann was loved by all of her family and friends. She will be missed very much by everyone who knew her.''
Ms. Eysteinsson is survived by her daughter, Jennie Ashouwak-Clark and her husband, Patrick Clark of Anchorage; daughters, Amanda Johanson of Old Harbor, Brittany Anderson of Anchorage and Desa Eysteinsson of Iceland; sons, Lawrence Anderson of Anchorage and Bjorgvin Eysteinsson of Iceland; grandson, Devarion Ashouwak of Anchorage; granddaughter, Kaylien Ashouwak of Anchorage; brothers, Lee Ashouwak, Lloyd Ashouwak and John Ashouwak of Old Harbor, and Ted Ashouwak of Maine; mother, Jennie Claunch of Anchorage; father, Lawrence Ashouwak of Old Harbor; common-law husband, Vern Anderson of Anchorage; auntie, Mable Shugak of Soldotna; uncle, Tom Shugak of Old Harbor; grandpa, William Shugak of Old Harbor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother, Merle Peter Ashouwak, preceded her in death. Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapels, downtown.
