Aaron was 8 years old when William James Double, husband of Aaron's mother, applied for Guardianship at the Courthouse in Portsmouth, OH
"It was common practice in those days for a guardian to be appointed for the children, when the father passed away even if the mother was alive. That was the day and age when business and financial transactions were thought to be the domain of men."
Aaron Carter enlisted in the Civil War, Company 8th Independent Sharp Shooters Regiment as a Corporal on 09 July 1863 at the age of 19. Mustered out Company 8th Independent SS Regiment Ohio on 19 July 1865
Aaron & his stepfather William James Double served together in the 8th Independent Sharp Shooters.
Aaron married Anna Belle Thompson 12 Jun 1867, at Anna Belle's parents home, Scioto Co., OH by John Hilt, JP
