James Shelton Oliver, son of Maj. Simeon Oliver and Mildred Terrell White, was married to Sarah Ann White. He was a Surgeon in the 9th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, C.S.A. during the Civil War.

Confederate veteran - Co. I, 29th Mississippi Infantry; transferred by appointment as Surgeon to 9th Mississippi Infantry. Resigned 10 Dec 1862 because "has lost his sight."
