George "Matt" Carrico, age 78, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 4:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on November 7, 1927 in Swan Creek, Illinois, the son of Wallace and Nannie Smith Carrico. He married Shirley A. German on November 25, 1966 in Williamsfield, Illinois. She survives of Knoxville, Illinois.
Surviving are three daughters, Tammy Carrico of Abingdon, Illinois, Christine Carrico of Auburn, New York and Rhonda (Richard) David of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Glenn) Wainwright of Hillsdale, Illinois; one brother, James (Mona) Carrico of Denton, Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
He graduated from High School, receiving his GED and received further education at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He worked for Maytag for 27 years, and farmed in the Roseville area for many years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Henry Philblad American Legion Post #749 of Knoxville, Illinois and the Amvets Local #008.
Graveside funeral services were at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois on Wednesday, April 19, 2006; Rev. Randy Douglass officiated. Military Rites were conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post # 285 of Galesburg, Illinois. (Bio from funeral card)
