Chico Daily Enterprise, Monday evening, October 18, 1909: Pioneer Woman Called By Death. A pioneer settler of California and for thirty-six years a resident of Butte county, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, died yesterday afternoon at her home four miles above Centerville. Funeral services will be held tomorrow from the family residence near Centerville. Undertaker F.M. Edgar left this afternoon on the Stirling train and will bring the remains to this city tomorrow morning. Interment will be made in the Dayton cemetery. Deceased was the widow of James Thompson, a well known cattle man who died four years ago, and with whom she came to California in 1869 from her native state, Ohio. In 1873 they settled at the family home above Centerville where deceased had since made her home. Deceased was seventy-four years of age and is survived by one son, John Thompson, prominent in the cattle business which he took up after his father's death. A sister living at Woodland also survives and is expected in the city tomorrow to attend the funeral services."

Chico Record, October 18, 1909: "Pioneer Resident of Butte Dead. A pioneer resident of California and who for over thirty-six years had been a resident of Butte county, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, died last Sunday afternoon at her residence near Centerville. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. The deceased is survived by her son, John Thompson, and a sister who resides in Woodland. Deceased was the widow of the late John Thompson, a well-known cattleman who died about four years ago, and with whom she came to California in 1869, from Ohio. In 1873 they settled near Centerville where they have since made their home. Undertaker Edgar left yesterday for Centerville and will bring the remains to this city. The funeral will be held from the F.M. Edgar mortuary parlors this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment will take place in Dayton cemetery."

Per the Death Certificate on file with the State of California: Elizabeth Thompson, born in Ohio, to John Coon of Virginia and Sarah Gray of Virginia, died October 18, 1909, aged 74 years, 8 months of age. A widow, the informant was John Thompson, and burial took place at Dayton, October 19, 1909.

Coon Descendants, by Frances Davis McTeer, 1979, (pg. 188): "Elizabeth Coon, born in Ohio in 1835, died at Centerville, California, 17 Oct 1909, aged 74 years; married at Charleston, Illinois, 26 April 1866, James Thompson, born in Ross Co., Ohio, 18 Sept. 1830, died at Centerville, 8 April 1903. Both are buried at Dayton, California."
