Martin Abels, 82-year-old retired printer, died August 24, at the home of a sister, Mrs. Walter Jadwin, at Cabool, with whom he had lived recently.
Mr. Abels for many years was employed as a printer for a daily newspaper in Oklahoma City.
He was born September 25, 1868, in Illinois, the son of Martin and Emma Abels, who moved to Texas County in 1884.
Mr. Abels attended local schools and became a printer in Oklahoma in 1893 after receiving his early training on the old Texas County Star newspaper. After retiring from newspaper work, Mr. Abels returned to Houston and made his home at the Piney Inn from 1940 to 1950. He moved to Cabool over a year ago.
Mr. Abels was married to Miss Cora Mercer in 1903. Mrs. Abels died soon after her marriage.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by four brothers, Henry and James of Springfield, Ill.; Fred of Long Beach, Calif., and John of Cabool.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Elliott Funeral Chapel by Rev. H. E. Trevathan. Burial was in the Houston cemetery.
