Maria (Cosner) Houston was the daughter of Henry Costner and Elizabeth Isenhour/Eisenhauer, both natives of North Carolina. She married Alfred Houston in Monroe County, Indiana, on 10 Jul 1837, where she had moved along with her family around 1831. Maria and Alfred migrated to Champaign County, Illinois in 1854.
They had nine children: Eliza Nelson, Benjamin Houston, Andrew J. Houston, Mary Otto, Matilda (Hathaway), Purnell Houston, Alexander C. Houston, Sarah L. Ingleman and Nancy A. Houston
