William is believed to be the son of James and Sarah Ann (Phillips) Gibson.

Moss), Eliza Gibson, Ally (Alley) Jane Gibson (m. Stanley L. Robertson), Nelson W. Gibson (Ivessa Snellen), Sarah A. Gibson, Elizabeth Gibson (m. It appears they migrated from Kentucky to Indiana as a family group. They appeared in the Putnum County area of Indiana in about 1840.

Husband of Lucy (Slavens) Gibson. Known children were Sarah E., Oliver F., William W., Louisa S. (married Frank F. Simmons), John, Laura B., Lincoln H., Mary F. (married Calvin T. Leonard) and a ninth child who prob. died in infancy.

William and Lucy were married 21 October 1841 in Putnum County, Indiana. The children (all nine) were born in Indiana. They migrated to Franklin County, Kansas sometime between 1860 - 1870 and lived there the rest of their lives. William farmed in Hayes Township, Franklin Co. for many years but at retirement they moved to Ottawa City (also in Franklin Co.). William was alive on the 1905 Kansas State census taken on 01 March 1905 but was not on the US Federal census taken in 1910.
