Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall
Panel 16E - Line 28 Raymond Hodorowski, Lance Corporal, United States Marine Corps, age 21, died in combat just south of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Quang Tri Province of Vietnam on Monday, March 6, 1967. Relatives learned via telegram that "he sustained fragmentation wounds to the body from a hostile explosive device while engaged against the enemy forces."

LCpl Hodorowski died, apparently in one of two battle actions that occurred about 8 1/2 miles south of the DMZ on Monday, March 6, 1967: One involved two North Vietnamese mortar attacks, in which 185 shells were poured into American forces and in which five Marines were killed and 11 wounded. The other combat on that Monday saw outnumbered U.S. Marines battling a battalion of North Vietnamese regulars, and calling for reinforcements.

LCpl Hodorowski, a machine gunner, was a member of I Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines. It was initially not reported whether his unit was among those shelled by the Vietnamese or the one which battled against superior numbers.

LCpl Hodorowski was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond S. Hodorowski, 5120 Williamsburg Drive, Lorain, Ohio. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 26, 1945, and came to Lorain, Ohio, as a child. LCpl Hodorowski attended Admiral King High School, 2600 Ashland Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, leaving there in the 11th grade in 1963 and going to work for Fruehauf Trailer Corporation, Avon Lake, Ohio. He was a member of Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.

In May, 1966, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went to Parris Island, South Carolina, for boot training. From there he was transferred to Camp Pendleton, California, leaving there in October, 1966, for Vietnam. Most of his time in Vietnam was spent near the DMZ, and in Quang Tri Province where he met death. His father reported that LCpl Hodorowski was engaged in "Operation Buck" in the days prior to his death.

LCpl Hodorowski was the husband of the former Judith Ann Lustek, of Lorain, Ohio, to whom he was married on August 28, 1965. She was employed by the Gelman Commission Company, Lorain, Ohio, as accounts-receivable bookkeeper.
