I knew my born in Norway great grandmother who we knew as Nannie. Other adults knew her as Jennie King or Mrs. King. A favorite story uncle Gerald liked to tell was that she told everyone her birth was in Wisconsin. When he enlisted in the US Air Force they did a security check and found she was born in Norway. Her birth name was Johanna Ericksen Fjaerli, 1885. I recently found her father Jacob Erickson's US naturalization document from 1910 Hettinger count, ND. All of them born in Norway had the last name Fajerli and it was where they lived. That is what other documents said also. I thought it was really odd, I knew they had different name traditions. I discovered Fjaerli is a place in More og Ramsdal county, Norway. Nearby towns are Valsoyford and Aure. All mentioned in legal documents. This at the Atlantic ocean. There is a road there called The Atlantic Ocean Road. I found history on family there. Photos have survived. Jennie and William married 1904. Frances born 1906. Jennie's parents and 2 sisters and one brother lived and died in Seattle. Jennie and William divorced 1929. She was a successful sales lady at National Public Life Insurance in the downtown Seattle skyscraper. She bought a new 1955 Chevrolet Belair hardtop it was Yellow and White with a green interior. I remember riding in it with my mom driving. Jennie went to Hawaii March 1955. We saw Jennie and sister Lena at family holiday dinners in the 1960's. She had an apartment in West Seattle on California Avenue near Admiral Way, the James. Jennie died in September 1967. I got to leave my 7th grade class and go to her funeral, my first funeral, it seemed special.
