David O. Apgar 85, passed away February 22, 2004. Born April 23, 1918 in Indianapolis, Indiana he was the son of William Apgar and Elizabeth (Platte) Apgar. Both whom preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army First Armored Signal Battalion during World War II. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for over 50 years and retired after 13 years from the Indianapolis Star and News as an electrician. For over 52 years he was instrumental in organizing and planning the annual First Armored Signal Battalion army reunion. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 5864 Greenwood, Indiana and he was also a member of the American Legion Post 70, Shelbyville, Indiana. He was an Evergreen Masonic Lodge member for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (DeBurger) Apgar of 62 years; sons David, George and Louie Apgar and daughter Alice Ann (Fred) Bullock; grandchildren George Apgar, Jimmy Bullock, Abbey Douglas, Lance Apgar, Luke Bullock, Ara Apgar and Josh Apgar; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also survived by his two oldest and best friends, army buddies since 1941 Paul Jarvis and Paul Esch. He was preceded in death by daughter Amalda Jane Apgar, grandson David Bullock and sister Amalda Nevitt. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Chance Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Entombment will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 26, at Washington Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
