Caleb served as a "private" in the 67th Regiment of the Pa Vol Inf, Co. C during the Civil War.
Caleb peddled dry goods and liniments around Huntingdon County, Pa after the war. He developed and sold his own liniment called "Brown's Liniment".
Caleb lived the last year of his life at the National Old Soldiers' Home in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He died there of pneumonia. His body was place in a train and taken back to Pa. He was buried in Everett Cemetery.
