North Guilford was surveyed in 1705. On 6 Dec 1716, Guilford Village voted to grant the petition of the "North Farmers in Guilford" to hire a minister for 4 months, and in 1719 the North Guilford planters subsequently petitioned to form a "Congregational Society" (i.e., in other words, to establish their own church). By 1720, arrangements were in place establishing the North Guilford Parish boundaries, with a meeting house finally being erected some time prior to the beginning of 1723, with the first permanent pastor being installed in 1724. It is assumed that the local farmers began building dwelling houses and moving their families out to North Guilford during this transition period.
