THE INDIANAPOLIS NEWS (Indianapolis, Indiana), Tuesday, July 17, 1945, Page 14:

Marion, Ind., July 17 -- Fred Bateman, 14, son of the Rev. and Mrs. G. R. Bateman, Jonesboro, died today at Marion General Hospital of injuries suffered Saturday after he was caught in a hammer mill. The accident occurred at the John Ruly farm.

The victim was attempting to remove the belt from the hammer mill and was hurled against the machine.
He died due to a possible fractured skull and other injuries received due to an accident at work on a farm.
