HISTORY: East Liverpool Review, East Liverpool, Columbiana Co., OH. Sunday, 29 Oct 2006, pg. 1.

East Liverpool - Betty Allison will be missed at City Hall. It is hard to replace 45 years of work on a job. She was faithful, never missed a day of work," Mayor James Swoger said Saturday of Allison who passed away at 3:30 a.m. Friday. She had not missed work prior to being hospitalized since a traffic accident in July, he added. Allison was the victim of a head-on collision. The driver was charged at the time. Allison had worked for the city 45 years. She began her career as a clerk-stenographer in the tax office of the city Aug. 16, 1961, earning $250 a month. She was appointed tax commissioner Feb. 1, 1975, and was the longest-tenured employee at City Hall. Mayor Swoger said he had worked with her only 2 1/2 years, but she will be greatly missed. You can't replace that type of experience. She was very quiet, did her job and didn't meddle with anyone. She never put anyone down. She was good at her job. Treasurer William Butler said Allison was a very dedicated employee. She was easy to work with. She did her job quite well. The tax commissioner is appointed by the treasurer. Butler said the job is very important and needed, so an appointment is expected within the next two weeks. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where visitation will be observed from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday.
