Anna Maria (Thielen) Knippel / Kneupple was born February 23, 1833 in Holzerath, Rhineland, Germany.

She was the daughter of John Thielen (1804-1892)and Lucia (Theis) Thielen (1802-1849.

After the death of her mother in Germany Anna Maria came to Ameica with her father, siblings and three cousins. They left Antwerp, Belgium on the ship "Bessel" arriving in New York City on July 3, 1851.

The family first appears on the US Federal census in 1860. They lived in Mequon, WI.

On April-07-1853 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Milwaukee, WI she married Mattias Knippel/Kneuppel in Milwaukee, WI. Mattias had arrived on the same ship from Germany.

They had twelve children. I have rcords for ten of them:
John, Lucia, Susanna, John Nicolaus "Nick", Mathew Ned, John/Johannes, Anna Maria/Maria/Mary, Peter Johannes, Henry Peter, and Francis/Frank.

They lived on a farm. She owned the farm after her husband's death (1898).

She died while living with her son Henry in Milwaukee on June-18-1917. She was buried at Buried St James/Jacobs Catholic Church Mequon , Ozaukee Co. Wisconsin.
