A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008, at St. Richard Catholic Church with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Monday at the church. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sulya was born on September 18, 1913, in Flomaton, Alabama, the daughter of the late Roberdeau & Emma Drury. She was reared in Flomaton and Mobile where she met and married her husband, Dr. Louis Leon Sulya. They moved to Oxford, Mississippi in 1946, where her husband was a professor of medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical School and moved to Jackson in 1955 along with the medical school. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a faithful communicant of St. Richard Catholic Church. Over the years, she participated in a number of clubs including the University of Mississippi Medical Center Wives Club and the St. Richard Seniors Club. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of numerous bridge clubs, including her favorite "Wednesday Two Table Club. Mrs. Sulya enjoyed spending time with her friends and cooking for her family. She had a vivacious and independent spirit and remained extremely active in life until only the last three years as she battled health problems.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Louis Leon Sulya; daughter, Katherine Sulya Bunch; sister, Francis Virginia Harris; and brother, Edwin Drury.
Survivors include: son, Louis Leon Sulya of Woodridge, IL; grandchildren, James Sulya of Woodridge, IL, Adam Bunch of Jackson, and Jonathan Bunch of Brisbane, Australia; great grandchildren, Kelsi and Cooper Bunch of Brisbane, Australia and Hayden LaPierre of Destrehan, Louisiana. She is also survived by her brothers, William Townsend Drury of Marietta, GA and Rufus Sizer Drury of Manteca, CA.
