Julia was born on 19 June 1863 in Long Coulee, near Holmen, La Crosse, Wisconsin to parents Svenning (aka Svenom) Olson (1828-1901) and Kari “Clara” Jensdatter (1836-1924). She was the second known daughter of this family, and like all of her siblings, a first born American citizen of Norwegian immigrants.

She married first, August “Gust” Larsen Osgard (1856-1902) who himself was a Norwegian immigrant, coming to America in 1881. They were married on 16 October 1882 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Their marriage lasted until 1902, when August died suddenly in Louisiana while working there. With August, she had eleven children*, of which nine are known.

She then married Albert Abram Bartholomew (1861-1930) in 1908. She remained with Albert until his death in 1930, and never married again. Their marriage did not produce any children.

Julia lived in the Onalaska area of La Crosse County all of her life.
