"Precious memories,
Unseen Angels,
Sent from somwhere to my soul;
How they linger,
Ever near me,
And the sacred past unfold..."

Sarah was the daughter of Hiram Vineyard and Rosana Nance Vineyard. Her mother, Rosana, died less than a year after Sarah's birth. Her father Hiram then remarried a woman named Martha Tabor and had eleven more children. Sarah married Newton Nance in 1875 and they had five children together, Clarence, Daniel, Frank, William "Tom" and Twimmon. Sarah died young in 1892 after a long illness. She was much beloved and deeply grieved. She is buried in the Nance family cemetery between Newton and their son Frank. Her stone is a beautiful one showing two hands together holding a rose. Her stone is broken now but will hopefully be repaired this spring.
It is believed by some in the family that Sarah was at least part Native American. The picture of her that hung in my great grandfather's home showed her to have the classic features of a Native American. I have no evidence of this being true. That is to say, I cannot prove it to be true or untrue - yet.
