Esther Bridgers, 108, Satanta, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008.

She was born Nov. 2, 1900, in Madison County, near St. Paul, Ark., to W.G. and Ida Prater Bivens. She was the oldest of six children.

She married Samuel Bridgers. A former resident of Fort Smith, Ark., she was a bookkeeper for the water department there from 1936 to 1957. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.

She was a resident of Fort Smith for 65 years before moving to Satanta on Nov. 7, 2001, to the Satanta Long-term Care Unit.

Survivors include a son, Ray Tweed of Liberal; a daughter, Mildred Jackson, of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, Lee, Jim and Glen; and two sisters, Georgia and Gladys.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Funeral was at Edward's Funeral Home, Fort Smith, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery, Fort Smith.
