OAKLAND,MARYLAND -- Lawrence Jesse McGovern, 74, of 137 George Washington Highway, Oakland, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Fort Howard Veterans Hospital.
Born on June 11, 1927, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph C. McGovern and Frances Myrtle (McLean) McGovern. Mr. McGovern was an addictions counselor for the Veterans Administration.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Irving and husband John, Oakland, Denise Cochran and husband Steve, Pasadena, Dawn Rutherford and husband Michael, Lafollette, Tenn.; a son, Ronald McGovern and wife Nadine, Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, United States Senator George McGovern and wife Eleanor, Stevensville, Mont.; a sister, Mildred Brady and husband Harold, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 12 noon with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by The Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
