Age 78 years. The son of the late Earl and Thelma (Wagner) Thornton, Curt was born October 1, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan. Curt served in the U.S. Army during World War II, also serving in the occupation forces in Japan. He married Jean Roenicke, his loving wife of 56 years, on May 5, 1951. She survives him.
Curt was employed at C&O Railroad (currently CSX Railroad) for 14 years until his retirement in 1972. He then became a well known watercolorist. He studied fine art at Meinsingers School of Art in Detroit. He also studied advanced water color under Zolton Szabo, Christopher Schink, Irving Shapiro and Frank Webb, also at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Curt's art work has been displayed in galleries throughout Michigan, Chicago and is also represented in private collections throughout the United States and England.
Surviving besides his wife Jean are two daughters, . . . ; four grandchildren, . . . ; a great-grand-daughter, . . . ; several nieces and nephews. Curt was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Rogers.
Honoring Mr. Thornton's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. . . . will officiate. . . . . Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Saginaw Children's Art Museum or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
