Abigail married Joseph Shaw 24 December 1834, Berlin Township, Stark County Ohio. Abigail was disowned by her father, Ezra Branin, when she married Joseph, a non-Quaker, and disciplined by the Quaker community for marrying outside 'the discipline'
Joseph divorced her on September 9, 1856 claiming he had been abandoned by her going to Atwater, Portage County, Ohio. Yet, she appeared on the Federal Census of 1860 in the household of Joseph listed as his wife.
in 1867, she left her husband, Joseph, in Ohio and moved to Iowa with her oldest son, John C. Shaw and all her dependant children.
Abigail died September 18, 1884 in Benton County Iowa.
