Mrs. Eunice Bates Murdaugh, born November 19, 1910, in Charleston, died August 7, 2006. She had made her home in Lake Wylie, SC for the past five years with her son, William (Billy) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth. Mrs. Murdaugh was active in the Charleston business community from the 1930's through the 1970's. She was the first woman to hold the position of head teller at the South Carolina National Bank. Ultimately, she was president of Murdaugh Motors car dealership which she managed with her husband, Marvin S. Murdaugh. She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Murdaugh enjoyed her home and garden and was a member of the Charleston Garden Club. She was a devoted mother who encouraged her sons, Marvin and Billy, and always supported their interests. As a child in 1918, Mrs. Murdaugh was the first successful survivor of an experimental operation to remove carcinoma. Her life was a testament to her courage, hope and concern for others. Surviving Mrs. Murdaugh are her sons, Dr. Marvin S. Murdaugh and wife Cathy of Charleston, SC, William R. Murdaugh and wife Mary Elizabeth of Lake Wylie, SC. Her grandchildren: Marvin S. Murdaugh, III, Amanda Murdaugh; a nephew, John C. Doyle, all of Charleston, SC; a sister, Henrietta Turner of Atlanta, GA. A graveside service will be held, Sunday, August 13, 2006, at St. Philip's Episcopal Churchyard. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
