F, 9th New York Infantry(Hawkins Zouaves),mustered into service on May 4,1861.Wounded in action at the Battle of Camden/South Mills on April 19,1862.Mustered out with the company on May 20,1863.Was elected an alderman for the 20th ward in NY and was very active in the city's political affairs.He also was a volunteer fireman as a young man and was a Master Brewer for his uncles's brewery;John Kress Brewery.
