Mr. E. M. Hawkins Dies at Ft. Benning -
Funeral services for Mr. Ellis Marion Hawkins, 19 years of age were conducted from the New Hope Baptist Church in this county last Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Jack Bridges, officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery with Haisten Brothers, funeral directors, in charge. Pallbearers were J.T. Hawkins, Clarence Hawkins, C.L. Burt, H.W. Whatley, W.W. Caldwell and E.O. Caldwell. The body arrived in Griffin from Fort Benning early Wednesday afternoon, then was taken to New Hope church to lie in state for an hour before the funeral. Mr. Hawkins died Tuesday in a Fort Benning hospital, following an appendix operation three days earlier. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hawkins; three sisters, Misses Margaret, Ruth and Dora Hawkins; and two brothers, Lewis and Hanley Hawkins, all of Zebulon.
